Avoid Hot Water

The last thing your body needs right now is hot water, as your skin will be more sensitive than usual, making the experience of your skin meeting hot water an excruciatingly painful one. Use lukewarm water to wash with, at least until your skin feels like it has recovered from the shock of the hair removal.

Wear comfortable, loose clothing

When your skin is sore, you don’t want anything touching it — not even your clothes — so unless you can afford to walk around naked at home, you’ll want to wear loose, light clothing that barely feels like it’s touching you. Start by wearing something light to the hair removal treatment, as squeezing back into those jeans is going to be the last thing you’ll want to do once it’s over. Having some nice light clothing will make the week after your treatment far more tolerable.


Your skin is no doubt going to be a little bit upset, so you need to find a way to soothe and help nourish it. Find yourself a natural plant-based lotion, such as something with Aloe vera in it, and gently apply it to your skin several times a day. This will help reduce inflammation as well as pain, and help your body to heal and start to calm down.


Try and leave your skin alone as much as you can. Apart from a soothing lotion, don’t put anything on your skin, and even shower without using shampoo or conditioner. You can use a very mild natural soap, but keep your skin as clear of anything unnecessary as possible.

Stay out of the sun

While it’s always a good idea to minimise your exposure to the sun, this is especially true after you’ve had a hair removal treatment, as your skin will be irritated and vulnerable, and you’re a far greater chance of burning. Give the beach a miss for at least a week, and that goes for fake tanning beds as well.
