It may seem counterintuitive, but now is a great time to suggest body treatments to your clients. The colder months are ideal for getting in shape and preparing for spring – it’s cold outside and gyms are warm. Also, many of us may have overindulged slightly during the festive period, so now is the time to get back on the right track.
Here are a few body treatments that you may wish to consider for your treatment menu. All of these treatments are the ideal compliment to healthy eating and regular training.
Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)
You’ve probably heard of EMS training because it’s become something of a buzz term in the fitness world.
The science of EMS training is that it mimics the natural movement of exercise at a muscular level. It does this by causing the muscles to contract and relax consistently – think reps, but without the weights.
EMS works by using electrodes attached to the skin over the targeted muscle group. The electrodes deliver a small electrical current that causes the muscles to contract. This contraction can help to improve strength, increase endurance, and reduce muscle pain or stiffness.
EMS is a good way to complement training rather than replace it. If a client has an area they’re trying to target, EMS could be worth considering.
Radial Shock Wave Therapy (RSWT)
Radial Shock Wave Therapy (RSWT), also known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), uses high-intensity sound waves to stimulate healing responses.
During the treatment, a device sends high-energy sound waves through the skin to the affected area. The shock waves create microtrauma in the affected tissue, which triggers the body’s natural healing response. This process increases blood flow and tissue regeneration.
RSWT has been found to be effective in treating conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles tendonitis, and shoulder impingement syndrome.
Fat Freezing (Cryolipolysis)
Fat freezing, also known as cryolipolysis, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that involves the use of low temperatures to freeze and destroy fat cells in specific areas of the body.
During the fat-freezing procedure, a device is placed on the targeted area of the body, such as the abdomen, thighs, or arms. The device then chills the area to a temperature that injures the fat cells, triggering healing responses from the body and causing those cells to die off.
The destroyed fat cells are then naturally processed and eliminated from the body over time through the lymphatic system.
Fat freezing is a relatively safe and painless procedure with minimal downtime, and patients can typically resume their normal activities immediately after the treatment.
It is important to note that fat freezing is not a weight loss solution or a substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise. It is designed to target stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise and help contour the body.
