3 Ways to Avoid Ingrown Hairs

Taking Care of Your Skin

Before undergoing laser hair removal treatment the hair in that area needs to be shaved 24 hours before. The area needs to be hair-free so that the laser can target the pigment of hair follicles. However, if shaving is done incorrectly it can result in ingrown hairs. Here are three ways to prevent these pesky red bumps!

1. Shave in the direction the hair grows
Shaving in the direction the hair grows minimises the irritation shaving can have on your skin, and makes it far less likely to get ingrown hairs. Although this won’t get you as close of a shave, you’ll be far less likely to get those uncomfortable ingrown hairs.

2. Make sure your razor is sharp

A blunt razor will mean you’ll have to go over the same area more than once, which can lead to ingrown hairs and also increase the irritation on your skin.

3.Exfoliate, exfoliate, and exfoliate!

Not only will proper exfoliation keep your skin smooth as a baby’s bum, it will help prevent ingrown hairs by making sure the hair can grow easily through the skin. Exfoliation before any type of hair removal is highly recommended.

Sometimes it’s impossible to avoid ingrown hairs, but when you do get them remember to never tweeze them completely out as that can just irritate the area more and cause more pain.
