client questions

Top 10 Client Questions Answered

Often it can be difficult for therapists to answer questions relating to the concerns of their patients. Knowing the difference between the types of Laser machines and how they vary in effectiveness for laser hair removal or laser skin treatments is important. At Laseraid, we aim to provide the best advice, service, and prices on Laser machines. So we’ve compiled a list of the top ten questions clients often ask about laser treatments and answered them below.
How many treatments are required for laser hair removal?

The number of treatments necessary is varied for every customer. It may take multiple treatments for visible hair reduction as there are several cycles of hair growth and a certain number of hairs may only be growing at a particular time. The optimum number of treatments is usually between six and ten. The thickness and pigment of the hairs also determine how effective the treatment is and how many sessions will be needed. The more contrast there is between the colour of the skin and the colour of the hair, the more effective the treatment.

If I have been out in the sun, tanning, or using sunless tanning products; can I be treated with a laser?

Many of the Candela lasers target the melanin/pigment in the skin. Therefore we advise patients to avoid any sun exposure, tanning beds, and sunless tanning products for at least two weeks prior to treatment and two weeks following treatment. The GentleYAG laser is the only product that may be used on patients with a tan, to reduce hair growth. However, patients should continue to avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for one week prior to treatment and two weeks post treatment.

How long does it take for a hair to shed after a laser treatment?

It will take up to two weeks for the hair to shed following a treatment with the GentleLASE and up to three weeks following a GentleYAG treatment.

How deep does the laser penetrate into the skin?

The depth of the laser penetration is changeable. Depth depends on wavelength. The longer the wavelength, the deeper the penetration.

Will the laser be harmful to organs and lymph nodes?

No, neither the organs nor the lymph nodes should absorb the laser light due to the limited depth of penetration.

When treating legs for hair reduction, do they need to be cleanly shaven?

Yes, all areas of the body that are being treated need to be cleanly shaven. Treatment areas should be shaved the day prior to treatment. Any hair remaining above the skin surface will absorb light that is intended for the hair follicle.

Can patients exercise before or after treatment of leg veins?

Patients undergoing treatment of leg veins should not exercise the day of treatments. These clients should also avoid exercising for five days following the treatment of leg veins. Patients should also avoid excessively hot baths and showers, steam rooms or saunas, alcohol, and any medication that may thin the blood.

What is the interval between laser treatments?

Typically most treatments are 4-6 weeks apart. However, this will depend on the indication being treated and where on the body the treatment is being performed.

For hair reduction, treatments for the face, underarms and bikini areas should be performed every 4-6 weeks, while treatments for the trunk of the body are usually necessary every 8-10 weeks. Treatments for the extremities should be performed every 10-12 weeks.

For pigmented lesions, treatment is recommended at 4-week intervals.

Vascular treatments for the face and upper body are typically performed every 4-6 weeks and for lower extremities or leg veins, every 10-12 weeks.

There are a number of medications, which may cause photosensitivity; is this important for patients who are undergoing laser treatments?

Definitely! It is absolutely necessary to obtain any information about medication that a patient is taking during the consultation. The therapists can then advise on whether the patient should continue medication or what effects their medication may have on their treatment. Patients should not be taking Accutane for at least 6 months prior to laser treatments. Other treatments may require a test spot to be performed if there is any concern of an adverse reaction. Retinoids should not be taken 3-5 days prior to treatment. This is due to the excessive redness they can cause.

Is there a guarantee with hair removal?

Clinical studies have depicted an 80-90% success rate in laser hair reduction. However, every patient responds differently to laser treatments and consequently, there is no guarantee. Patients should be advised during the consultation that results may vary from patient to patient.
We hope that this has helped demystify any questions about laser treatments that your clients may have been asking. Candela Lasers, Not Just for Laser Hair Removal!

The demand for cosmetic laser treatments is on the rise, with many Australians seeking more effective treatments to combat ageing and the effects of sun damage to the skin.

Many Australians are now turning to laser Pigmentation Removal, a treatment that can effectively diminish the appearance of age spots, freckles and fine lines.

Pigmentation removal treatments can be performed easily with our Candela GentleLASE lasers. The process, called photorejuvenation, uses light-based technology to target unwanted pigment without harming surrounding skin. In just a few sessions, pigment appears lighter and skin looks clearer and younger.

A client of Laser Clinics Australia, Michelle Busé recently wrote about her experience with laser pigmentation removal on her blog (link to article), describing each step of the process and her overall positive experience.

In order to achieve the look she desired, Michelle had two sessions of laser pigmentation removal on her face, which took around five to ten minutes per session.

In her article, Michelle explained that she saw the results around three days after the initial treatment.

“I could see the results immediately, and my face looked and felt fantastic! Friends and family were commenting on how fresh my face looked and wanted to know my secret!”

Though she described the treatments as being initially painful, laser pigmentation removal is a quick process, with minimal downtime. It is always best to advise clients of the potential discomfort of the procedure, as the pain can vary substantially from client to client.

Despite the initial pain, overall, Michelle’s experience with laser pigmentation removal was extremely positive. As she wrote on her blog:

“I am so happy with the results and love that I don’t need to wear so much makeup now to cover my freckles! The older I get the less makeup I feel like wearing and now being in my mid-thirties, its all about making sure my skin is in the best condition it can be.  So regular treatments, the right products and SPF 50+ are essential to keep my skin looking fresh and glowing.”

Laser pigmentation treatments are extremely effective in diminishing the appearance of freckles, sun spots, age spots, as in Michelle’s case. And while the most common use of the Candela GentleLASE lasers is laser hair removal, Michelle’s experience is a great example of the fantastic results that can be achieved with the laser for other skin concerns. Candela lasers are also extremely effective in treating spider veins, acne lesions as well as reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Laseraid is a proud supplier of the Candela Mini GentleLASE and GentleLASE Plus, offering affordable and easy solutions for laser ownership as well as advice, services solutions and training on our laser machines. It Takes Two to Tango – Preparing for Laser Hair Removal

It’s no secret that unwanted facial and body hair is a source of distress for both men and women. In some cases, it’s more than just wanting to be silky smooth for the beach and more of a medical issue. Excessive hair growth is classified as either hypertrichosis or hirsutism.

– Hypertrichosis is the excessive growth of body hair in a normal or abnormal pattern. It may be genetic or due to medications, hormones, malnutrition, tumours, or metaboli problems.

– Hirsutism is excessive growth of hair in women, but in a male pattern – such as the beard, moustache or lower abdomen and may be due to hormonal problems, medications, tumours or heredity.

Whether your clients’ suffer from either of these symptoms or not, the daily hair-removal struggle is real…

So your clients have finally exhausted every possible method to achieve the smoothest, hair free skin. But no matter how many razors, wax strips and pairs of tweezers they’ve used, the temporary and varying degrees of success are just not hacking it. Enter, Laser Hair Removal.

Although we will happily sing the praises of Laser Hair Removal and its benefits, there are ways in which the customer can help to improve the end result. Advising your client to make the effort before their treatment will pay dividends afterwards with smoother, less irritated skin.

Make sure you take the client’s skin and hair type into account before creating a personalised treatment plan for them. To help you advise your customers, we’ve come up with a list of dos and don’ts to pass on:

Don’t:
1. Wax or Pluck.
In order for the laser to be successful, the root must be present in the follicle so avoid removing hair by the roots.

2. Burn or Fake Tan.
Your skin should be of its natural colour so avoid sun exposure, tanning, solariums and fake tans. Let your therapist know if you have had recent sunburn, a deep tan or if you have fake tan on your skin as this may affect your treatment.

3. Don’t stop.
Laser hair removal takes around 10 sessions to completely remove the hair. Most people notice a minimum of 15 per cent reduction after one treatment but some hairs will grow back. Stick with it!

Do:
1. Shave
Using a new razor and plenty of sensitive skin shaving foam, shave the area 24 hours before your appointment.

2. Go naked (not literally)
Your skin needs to be as au natural as possible in preparation for the treated area so skip the deodorant and moisturiser.

3. Talk to your therapist
Note down the names of any medication you’re taking as some can cause skin sensitivity or react to the laser. Talk to your therapist about your medical history to check you are safe to proceed with laser treatments.

By following these few simple steps, you can ensure the best results for your customer and from our top of the range, gold standard equipment. For more information on our range of equipment and service, call us today on (02) 9011 5509.

microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion has long become a brand name in aesthetic treatments and is the world’s second most popular aesthetic procedure. Both leading dermatologists and aestheticians of superstars incorporate this unique exfoliation treatment into their skin care regimes.

What is it?
Microdermabrasion treatments are used to improve the texture and quality of the skin. A small hand piece is passed over the face to loosen and remove the upper layer of dead skin cells, allowing new, healthy skin to shine through. They can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes, with no downtime.

The effects last approximately a month, but can also vary from person to person. The number of recommended sessions is dependent on your client’s skin and the clinic they are attending. A common recommendation is around six sessions at fortnightly or monthly intervals for ultimate improvement.

The treatment is primarily designed to tackle dull, dry or rough skin but is also used to treat acne and reduce superficial pigmentation and fine lines. It is often used in combination with other treatments, such as peels and wrinkle reduction and prevention. As well as polishing and deeply exfoliating the skin, it also promotes lymphatic draining. Though most commonly used on the face, microdermabrasion is also extremely effective when used on the hands, back, chest and neck.

Post Treatment Care
Microdermabrasion treatments are extremely safe and effective. Any redness, temporary flaking and mild discolouration will disappear after the treatment, and can be covered with a light layer of mineral makeup.

Most therapists and clinics will have a number of products on offer to soften, purify and hydrate the skin, and enhance your client’s results.

As a multi-beneficial, pain-free and affordable treatment, microdermabrasion is becoming increasingly popular. Our award-winning Pristine microdermabrasion procedure offers patients a non-invasive and full scope exfoliation treatment that is comfortable and above all extremely effective.
