Microdermabrasion: The Most Popular Skin Rejuvenation Process

Microdermabrasion is the safe, affordable and easy way to instantly beautiful glowing skin.

Microdermabrasion is one of the most popular skin care treatments used today to revitalize skin and for the treatment of fine lines, large pores and age spots. As one of the least invasive and most affordable dermatological procedures, it has quickly become a mainstay for women to maintain healthy, beautiful skin. Used regularly, microdermabrasion is an easy way of keeping skin looking youthful as well as removing sun damage, pigment irregularities and acne scars.

Many microdermabrasion procedures differ and use varying techniques and technology to revitalize the skin. The award-winning Pristine microdermabrasion procedure offers patients a non-invasive and full scope exfoliation that is extremely effective. This procedure uses a diamond-encrusted microdermabrasion tip for skin exfoliation. The diamond microdermabrasion tip makes contact with skin while buffing away the top layer. Depending on the patient, appropriate diamond tips of varying sizes can be used.

The microdermabrasion procedure generally takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and the client can then resume their daily activities. Initially, some clients may have some temporary redness or dryness of the skin due to increased circulation. The skin will calm and subside quickly, giving way to a beautiful, clean glow. We recommend all patients use sunscreen to protect the skin following treatment. Results generally last for approximately two weeks. While commonly used on the face, microdermabrasion can be used on the neck, hands and virtually anywhere on the body.

The Advantages of Laser vs IPL

Laser hair removal is growing in popularity as many men and women become increasingly unhappy with waxing, plucking, tweezing and shaving to remove unwanted hair. Permanently removing unwanted hair using laser technology is fast becoming one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in Australia.

There are generally two different forms of hair removal treatment available: laser or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). Both remove unwanted hair and keep it away. While each method is comparable, there is one clear difference: Laser hair removal technologies, such as the Candela GentleLASE, use actual lasers to remove unwanted hair. IPL uses a light based device to destroy the hair follicles. Both of these treatments convert light energy into heat that targets the melanin in the follicle, damaging it to the point where the follicle does not support regrowth.

There is much debate over which treatment is better for hair removal. Different clinics and practitioners will each explain that theirs is more effective. While there is no general consensus, the majority of clinics are using laser machines as it is proven to eradicate and keep unwanted hair away for longer. IPL was originally developed to treat skin and beauty problems such as age spots, freckles and broken capillaries and hair loss was discovered as a side effect.

Newer lasers and IPL technology have differing light wavelengths. IPL uses an array of wavelengths, only some of which will be ideal for hair removal. This means that a percentage of the wavelengths will be ineffective, leading to the need for more treatments before the desired result is achieved. Lasers generally use a single, precise wavelength to specifically target the melanin in the follicle. Using an exact and precise wavelength means that treatments are more effective and fewer are required.

Zimmer Cooling Device 2

The Zimmer Cryo Cooling device is an award winning system that minimises pain during laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatments and provides temporary relief for cosmetic injections. According to data released by the Aesthetic Buyers Guide, over 51% of the most profitable aesthetic office procedures could be made more comfortable using the Zimmer Cryo Cold Air Cooling system. Some of these procedures include skin rejuvenation, laser hair removal and laser wrinkle reduction.

The Zimmer Cryo Cooling system uses a compressor system similar to a refrigerator to generate a permanent stream of cold air and temperatures as low as -30 Celsius, depending on the cooling level required (range of 1 to 9). The system consists of a thin tube with a special cooling adapter and the stream of cold air that hits the skin exactly at the place of the laser beam application. The adapter is easily fitted onto all laser types.

In a study carried out in Germany of 166 patients undergoing treatments using different laser systems, 86% preferred cold air therapy. This study also found that, on average, the pain relief was 37% better with cold air than cooling with ice gel. The increased protection of the skin also made it possible to increase laser energy levels by 15-30% and to reduce the rate of side effects. Doctors performing the treatments noted that the procedures became more practical, safer and more pleasant with application of cold air. This resulted in treatments carried out more quickly and with no breaks to apply a cooling medium. They also noted that the treatment area remained visible at all time and after treatment the patient did not have to clean any remaining cooling substances off of themselves.
