Treatments feature the word “treat” for a reason!

Treatments feature the word “treat” for a reason!

Your clients are the lifeline to your business; they are also the key to consistent referrals and repeat business. If your clients have an ‘experience to remember’, they will not only be back to visit you very soon, but will likely rave about it to their friends and family. This is why it is so important that they feel comfortable and relaxed for the entirety of their visit.

Customer Service
One of the biggest ways to make customers feel relaxed and comfortable in your beauty clinic is through great customer service. Staff should have a friendly demeanour at all times and be well versed in the products and services on offer.

One very simple thing that is often forgotten is remembering the small details. Things like calling a client by their name and remembering the small details, “Hi Jenny, it’s great to see you, how are your daughters going?” can make a massive difference to the client’s view of your clinic and your team. A great way to help this process is to ensure your team make notes after a treatment of anything that may be of importance and are instructed to review any notes before a repeat clients’ next visit.

Overall customer service is by far the most important part of any successful business and a customer service protocol should be implemented by all beauty clinics.

Delicate Topics
Some beauty treatments can be delicate discussion point for clients. Ensuring that your staff are properly trained so that they know how to deal with sensitive topics will also help to put your clients at ease when the necessity to discuss or undergo these type of treatments occurs.

Ambience
A client can instantly tell whether or not they like a place from the moment they walk in. The atmosphere of your beauty clinic can mean the difference between a client booking or not booking in for a treatment.

There are a number of different factors that go into creating ambience so it is important that every detail of your space is well thought out. Make sure your beauty clinic feels welcoming by adding warm tones throughout the space, and avoiding colours that are too bright or harsh.

Another key aspect of creating ambience is through smell. Lavender, Jasmine or Mint are very popular for beauty clinics as they are known for their relaxing properties and soothing aroma.

Lighting
While lighting may seem like a small consideration in the grand scheme of establishing a beauty clinic, the type of lighting used is extremely important to making customers feel welcomed.

Harsh fluorescent or white lighting should be avoided as it makes many people think of hospitals and can give off a very sterile vibe. When possible, use yellow lighting rather than white lights because white lights can be extremely stark.

So remember, treatment features the word TREAT for a reason. Give your customers an experience to remember and treat them to a world of pampering that they will rave about to all their friends and family.

What is Microdermabrasion and Why Should You Offer It?

With so many conflicting reports and changes in trends, it’s sometimes unclear what the best treatment is for treating specific areas or conditions. To help you offer the right treatments to your patients, we’ve broken down the facts from the myths about one of the more popular treatments: microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is a very common, non-surgical, non-chemical and non-invasive method of skin rejuvenation. It uses exfoliation to remove the top layers of skin to reveal new and fresh skin cells.  Microdermabrasion can be used on all skin types and is even effective on sensitive skin. It is, however, recommended that you discuss your medical history with your beauty therapist before you proceed.

A microdermabrasion facial will normally last 30 minutes. If you require additional areas including the neck or other body parts, then it is recommended to leave an extra 30 minutes. Microdermabrasion’s have been labelled the ‘lunch time facial’, this means as soon as you step out the salon you are ready to go back to work. A mild red tint may appear over the treated areas however this is the only dissimilarity that will appear on your skin. The treatment is generally painless, and some clients have positively reported a warm and tingling sensation during the procedure.

After the procedure, it is vital that you stay out the sun for at least a week after your procedure as your skin will be hypersensitive. Some redness may occur on treated areas but this will go down within the first few hours. Within the first 24 hours your skin may feel dry and tight, similar to a sun or wind burn, so be sure to moisturise and avoid make up for 3-4 days afterwards in order to achieve the best results.

Microdermabrasion treatments can fix many common skin issues including:

  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Aging skin
  • Loose and sagging skin
  • Fine lines
  • Acne
  • Oily skin
  • Rough and uneven skin surface
  • Dry and dehydrated skin
  • Scars

Clients usually see a change in their skin after 4 or 5 treatments, although some minor changes, such as smoother, more radiant skin, can be seen after the first treatment. This does depend greatly on your individual skin type and the machine used. The amount of treatments needed will heavily depend on your skin type and the issues you are wishing to treat. Most therapists recommend 6-10 treatments spaced about 2-3 weeks apart as this will allow the skin to repair and recover fully.

6 Ways to prepare for laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is a great way to achieve permanent hair reduction. What follows is a list of recommendations that should be considered prior to treatment. Completing the following will ensure the best possible results:

The results of laser hair removal vary according to different skin types and hair colours. Laser has proven to be more effective on people with light skin and dark hair, however it’s best to speak with your clinician to receive the best advice for you.

While fake tan might look good, it disrupts the process of laser hair removal. The skin should be as light as possible prior to treatment so that the lasers can achieve the best results.

Too much sun exposure can burn or damage the skin, which isn’t ideal for effective laser hair removal. Sunscreen should be used when outdoors to ensure the skin is protected and prime for laser treatment.

Plucking and waxing removes hair from the roots, which is what lasers target during treatment. If hair is removed shortly before treatment, there will be no hair left to target.

Shaving doesn’t pluck hairs from the roots, so it won’t affect the removal process. In fact, it’s highly recommended. Shaving ensures the pigment of hair follicles will be targeted, which means there will be easier access to the follicle once the hair is shaved off. Plus, lasering long hair carries a risk of burn.

Before undertaking treatment, the skin will need to be cleaned to rid it of lotions, cosmetic and creams.

Microdermabrasion Explained

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive 15-minute exfoliating treatment that uses high-quality diamond tips to gently exfoliate the skin. This is an effective and affordable solution for rejuvenating tired skin, reducing wrinkles and blackheads, stimulating collagen production and cleansing pores.

The second most popular aesthetic procedure in the world, Microdermabrasion, is conducted using the Viora Pristine, an award-winning device. This micro machine provides deep exfoliation; using a specially designed wand to gently polish the face, increasing blood flow to the skin. This highly acclaimed technique improves skin tone, refines texture and leaves the skin looking great!

Microdermabrasion is a chemical free aesthetic procedure, providing a safe and worry-free means to achieve glowing skin, without breaking the bank.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

After the procedure skin will appear smoother, brighter and the skin tones more even. Once the dead skin cells have been eliminated, the skin will no longer appear dull and grey.

Eligibility

Due to its gentle, non-invasive nature, almost all skin types can undergo microdermabrasion treatment, however it is not recommended for those who suffer chromic acne.

Frequency of treatment

For most effective results, microdermabrasion should be administered once a month. This allows time for the natural lifecycle of a skin cell to take place. The Viora Pristine works best for patients who receive a minimum frequency of a quarterly microdermabrasion.

Preparing for microdermabrasion

Patients should avoid other facial procedures for one week prior to the treatment. That means no peels, micro needling or laser treatments in the lead up to a microdermabrasion.

Post-treatment care

Immediately after treatment the face should be cleansed, lightly towel dried and a rich moisturiser generously applied. It is necessary to apply moisturiser for the next four to six days to prevent the drying of the skin. Sunscreen must be worn outside as a matter of principle. Sunlight should be avoided for one week after the procedure in order to prevent UV rays from damaging the freshly exfoliated skin.

Candela Yag

Uses of Candela Yag and Candela Gentlelase

Up until recently, laser was a technology commonly known within the beauty and cosmetics industry to assist clients in permanent hair removal. The technology has now been introduced into the realm of skin care and has successfully been able to treat skin issues with minimal pain, effective results and with little to no risk of complications. These results are achieved through the Candela YAG and GentleLASE. Both machines cater to and specialise in various skin issues in order to achieve optimum results for clients.

Candela GentleLASE

The machine works through a sharp, burst of light, which is then directed onto any pigmented lesions. Over time, the pigmentation or spots within the skin gradually begin to fade and eventually disappear completely.

Uses of the Candela GentleLASE include:

  • Hair Removal
  • Treatment of Epidermal Pigmented Lesions
  • Sun-damaged Skin
  • Age Spots
  • Freckles
  • Candela YAG

This specific machine emits a gentle light at chosen blood vessels under the skin. This encourages the skin to increase its collagen production, ensuring that the vessels disappear over time. The machine allows for a pain free process while maintaining the client’s comfort.

Uses of the Candela YAG include:

  • Hair Removal
  • Vascular Anomalies
  • Reducing the Appearance of Spider Veins
  • Telangiectasia on the Face
  • Reducing the Appearance and Signs of Wrinkles

Laseraid offers both machines with the best price and offers a price match! Laseraid is also able to tailor your payments with flexible and convenient options including direct purchase, rent or hire-purchase. All equipment purchased through Laseraid comes with a 12-months warranty, delivery, installation, accessories, training and consumables.

Taking Care of Your Skin

3 Ways to Avoid Ingrown Hairs

Before undergoing laser hair removal treatment the hair in that area needs to be shaved 24 hours before. The area needs to be hair-free so that the laser can target the pigment of hair follicles. However, if shaving is done incorrectly it can result in ingrown hairs. Here are three ways to prevent these pesky red bumps!

1. Shave in the direction the hair grows
Shaving in the direction the hair grows minimises the irritation shaving can have on your skin, and makes it far less likely to get ingrown hairs. Although this won’t get you as close of a shave, you’ll be far less likely to get those uncomfortable ingrown hairs.

2. Make sure your razor is sharp

A blunt razor will mean you’ll have to go over the same area more than once, which can lead to ingrown hairs and also increase the irritation on your skin.

3.Exfoliate, exfoliate, and exfoliate!

Not only will proper exfoliation keep your skin smooth as a baby’s bum, it will help prevent ingrown hairs by making sure the hair can grow easily through the skin. Exfoliation before any type of hair removal is highly recommended.

Sometimes it’s impossible to avoid ingrown hairs, but when you do get them remember to never tweeze them completely out as that can just irritate the area more and cause more pain.

Taking Care of Your Skin in Between Visits

Learning how to take care of your skin can be a long and frustrating exercise. It usually requires a lot of patience, money, knowledge and experimentation. While treatments like microdermabrasion, photo rejuvenation and skin exfoliation are the ultimate refreshers for your skin, it’s not realistic to get these treatments every week! But rest assured, there are small, yet effective things you can do to help keep your skin fresh and flawless between laser visits.

1. Beware of the sun

An Australian summer is your skin’s worst enemy. It can leave your skin looking dry, red and sun damage can cause signs of premature aging such as pigmentation and wrinkles. Speak to any celebrity with flawless skin and they’ll tell you that they never leave the house without sunscreen on. Cate Blanchet and Jennifer Lopez swear by their sunscreen routine and it shows!

2. Moisturise and moisturise!

Moisturizing twice a day, in the morning and before bed, especially during winter, when your skin is at its driest. Use SPF in the morning and a more intense, SPF free moisturiser at night.

3. A fortnightly mask

There’s nothing quite like treating your face to a rejuvenating mask, whether it’s an at home DIY or a professional one, your skin will love you for it. If you wear heavy makeup everyday masks are like an apology for your skin, and it’ll accept it, every time.

 4. Serums

If you are under the wrath of pigmentation or enlarged pores, serums are here to help. Serums have more active ingredients than a moisturiser. Apply serum morning and night after your cleanser and before your moisturiser.

5. Wash off your make up

It’s been repeated a million times, and we will repeat it again. Never sleep with your make up on! And if your make up doesn’t need to be on, take it off. Make up clogs your pores, causing acne and black heads.

Now you have all the tips to keep your skin beautiful and protected between you laser visits.
